With Turkey Earthquake Hazard Maps Interactive Web Applications, which were put into service after the earthquakes that have increased more frequently in recent times and caused loss of life; citizens can see the earthquake danger of the region they live in. At the beginning of 2020, the active fault lines map created by the Disaster and Emergency Management Presidency (AFAD) and the General Directorate of Mineral Research and Exploration (MTA) was made available.You can query the risky areas in detail such as provinces, districts and neighbourhoods. According to AFAD's statements, the map is a neighbourhood earthquake risk map with detailed data, taking into account the most up-to-date earthquake source parameters, earthquake catalogues and new generation mathematical models.
In addition, on the inquiry map, the emergency assembly areas determined by AFAD in case of any earthquake can be learned. The colours on the map are determined by tones from light yellow to dark red. Light yellow indicates the least risky area, whilst dark red indicates the most risky areas. Thanks to these colours, we can easily see the level of risk you will encounter with earthquake hazard.
The fault line map created by AFAD and MTA can be easily accessed from the official website of AFAD or via e-government. Those who want to inquire about the earthquake risk of the region they live in, will need to enter the coordinates and address information of the region they reside in to view the map. After logging into the site, you can reach the fault line map by following the steps below.
1- Log in with your E-Government credentials on https://tdth.afad.gov.tr.
2-After the “Turkey Earthquake Hazard Map” is opened, click the “Address Inquiry” link in the upper left corner and select your address information.
3- Enter your city, district, village and neighbourhood information. After making a selection, the map will zoom in on the area you are querying.
4- You can find information about the colour tone of the region, the fault line and the danger situation here.
