Housing sales increased by 11.2% in 2020 compared to the previous year and became 1,499,316. During the January-December period, mortgaged house sales increased by 72.4% to 573,337, while in other sales types it decreased by 8.9% to 925,979. In 2020, the share of mortgaged sales was 38.2% and the share of other sales was 61.8%. During this period, new house sales decreased by 8.2% to 469,740. Second-hand house sales increased by 23.0% and amounted to 1,029, 576. The first-hand house sales rate was 31.3%, the second-hand house sales rate was 68.7%. In 2020, Istanbul took the first place in house sales with an impressive 265,098 houses and a 17.7% share. Istanbul was followed by Ankara with 157,095 house sales and 10.5% share, and İzmir with 93,457 house sales and 6.2% share. The least sales were in Ardahan with 192 houses.

One hundred and five thousand, nine hundred and eighty one  houses were sold in Turkey in December 2020

Housing sales across Turkey decreased by 47.6% in December 2020 compared to the same month of the previous year and became 105,981. In house sales, Istanbul had the highest share with 20,236 houses sold which represents 19.1%. According to the number of sales, Istanbul was followed by Ankara with 9,990 house sales and 9.4% share, and İzmir with 5,794 house sales and 5.5% share. The provinces with the lowest number of house sales were Ardahan with 18 houses, Hakkari with 20 houses and Bayburt with 100 houses, respectively.

Mortgage housing sales amounted to 14,631 in December 2020

Mortgaged house sales in Turkey in December 2020 decreased by 70.9% compared to the same month of the previous year and became 14,631. The share of mortgaged sales in total house sales was 13.8%. Istanbul took the first place in mortgage sales with 3,251 houses and a 22.2% share. The province with the lowest mortgaged house sales was Hakkari with 2 houses.

As a result of other sales types, 91,350 houses changed hands.

Other house sales decreased by 39.8% in Turkey in December 2020 compared to the same month of the previous year and became 91,350. In other house sales, Istanbul ranked first with 16,985 house sales and a share of 18.6%. The share of other sales in total house sales in Istanbul was 83.9%. Ankara ranked second with 8,179 other house sales. İzmir followed Ankara with the sale of 4,759 residences. The province with the lowest other house sales was Ardahan with 15 houses.

36, 898 houses were sold for the first time in house sales

The number of houses sold for the first time in Turkey in December 2020 decreased by 51.1% compared to the same month of the previous year and became 36,898. The share of the first sale in total house sales was 34.8%. In the first sales, Istanbul had the highest share with 6,391 house sales and 17.3%, followed by Ankara with 2,332 house sales and İzmir with 1,789 house sales.

69,083 houses changed hands in second-hand house sales

Second-hand house sales across Turkey decreased by 45.4% in December 2020 compared to the same month of the previous year and became 69,083. In second-hand housing sales, Istanbul ranked first with 13, 845 housing sales with a share of 20%. The share of second-hand sales in total house sales in Istanbul was 68.4%. Ankara took second place with the sales of 7658 houses. İzmir followed Ankara with 4005 house sales.

40,812 houses were sold to foreigners in Turkey in 2020

Housing sales to foreigners decreased by 10.3% in 2020 compared to the previous year. In 2020, Istanbul took first place with 19,175 residences and Antalya took second place with 7,735 residences. Antalya was followed by Ankara with 2,746 house sales and Bursa with 1,340 house sales.

In December 2020, 4,427 residences were sold to foreigners.

Housing sales to foreigners decreased by 16.4% compared to the same month of the previous year and became 4,427. In the housing sales to foreigners, Istanbul took the first place in December 2020 with the sales of 2,308 houses. Antalya was followed by Antalya with 789 house sales, Ankara with 273 house sales, Mersin with 159 house sales and Yalova with 131 house sales, respectively.
