Anamur is a town and coastal resort in Mersin Province, bordering Antalya Province to the west. It is one of the most southern points of the country.
The local economy depends on agriculture, and Anamur is well-known for its banana, peanut and strawberry plantations due to its hot climate.
The main attraction is the ancient Anamurium remains in the southwest, adjacent to the beach. On the other side, towards the northeast, there is a famous fortress called Mamure Kalesi, which is also positioned directly on the coast.
Although there are ancient sites, extensive beaches, and a clean sea, there is no large-scale tourism on this part of the coast. The closest airports to Anamur are in Gazipasa and Adana, approximately 83 and 250 kilometers away, both providing local and international flights.
The city is divided into two parts: the ancient town center, which leans against the mountain ranges, and the modern beach neighborhood, which consists primarily of concrete buildings used by families as summer homes. There are various small and larger hotels, as well as restaurants around the small boulevard, that provide high-quality service.
Although some residents from central Anatolia and foreigners from Europe (Germany, Austria, and the Netherlands) have summer houses here, Anamur is a peaceful, isolated town with no nightlife and is fairly quiet in the winter. Numerous holiday apartments and villas are located near the shore or further inland.
